Mark VanBurik has worked at The Scarlet Knight Liquors for almost 20 years. He became a manager after marrying one of the owners. He is only one of two managers there, the other being John Hegedus Jr. The two work alternate mornings and afternoons throughout the week and each get every other weekend off. This results in anywhere from 34-53 hours a week and more around holidays, making these two the main decision makers on day-to-day activities.
Mark maintains the inventories on beer, snack foods, and cigarettes, while his counter-part, John, maintains liquor and wine. Maintenance is split between them and day-to-day chores, such as mopping, falls to the employees. Mark and John split the duties of cashing checks and lottery maintenance.
Working
with a number of suppliers, Mark is charged with reordering stock to ensure a
steady flow and the orders change from week to week depending on what is
selling and in what quantities.
